How to Prepare an Edits Video for Multiple Platforms

Make one great video and publish it in more than one place. Edits exports have no watermark, supports vertical HD, 2K and 4K, and has a cropping tool for different aspect ratios, so a single edit can serve Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. This guide covers building a vertical master, keeping text in safe areas, cropping for other formats, exporting the right way, handling music rights, and a posting checklist. Every step is animated, with video walkthroughs at the end.

One video, many platforms

Edit once, then adapt. A single well-made video can work on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube Shorts if you plan for the differences up front. Edits helps in three ways:

  • No watermark. Edits exports have no watermark, so the file is clean for any platform.
  • Cropping. Coverage of the cropping update says you can select specific areas or aspect ratios to crop and reposition video, which helps repurpose content beyond Instagram.
  • Flexible export. Async says you can post directly to Reels, Stories or Feed, cross-post to Facebook, or download the file for other platforms.

Platform rules change often, so check each platform's current length limits and specs before you post. New to Edits? Start with the first Reel guide.

02

Build a vertical master

Most short-form platforms are built around full-screen vertical video. Edits' HD option is 1080x1920, which is 9:16, and it also supports 2K (1440x2560) and 4K (2160x3840). Edits product lead Tom Bender recommends 2K for most uses, as reported by Social Media Today.

  1. Film vertically in the Edits camera or your phone at 9:16.
  2. Choose 2K for the master, and a frame rate that suits the content.
  3. Edit the master with clips, music and text.
  4. Keep important content in the centre, away from the edges.

See camera tools for settings and trim, split and reorder for the edit.

03

Crop for other formats

Some placements aren't 9:16. Common examples are 1:1 square and 4:5 portrait for feed posts, and 16:9 landscape for YouTube. Edits' crop tool lets you choose an area or aspect ratio and reposition the video (the cropping update was first reported for iOS).

  1. Duplicate your project so the master stays safe.
  2. Open Crop and choose the new aspect ratio.
  3. Reposition the subject so it stays in frame.
  4. Check text and move anything that was cut off.

Which ratios Edits offers isn't specified in the coverage, so check your own version. For framing tips see cinematic filters, crop and blur.

04

Keep text and captions in safe areas

Every platform overlays buttons, usernames and captions on videos, usually at the bottom and the right edge. These are general layout suggestions:

  • Keep key text in the middle of the frame, away from the bottom edge and right side.
  • Leave margin at the top for status bars and headers.
  • Don't rely on one platform's UI, because layouts differ.
  • Use captions so the video works with sound off everywhere; see captions.

See text and titles for styling.

05

Export without a watermark

Async says Edits exports HD, 2K or 4K with standard or high-quality compression, with no watermark.

DestinationHow
InstagramUse Share to Instagram, which Bender says helps viewers see a higher-quality version
FacebookCross-post from the share screen, per Async
TikTok, YouTube Shorts and othersDownload the file and upload it in each app

Different platforms recompress video, so export at a high quality from the start. See the export guide and blurry export if quality drops.

06

Music, sound and rights

Music licensing is often platform-specific. A track available in one app may not be available in another, so:

  • Use music you have the rights to on every platform you post to.
  • Consider adding trending audio inside each platform after you upload, if the platform allows it.
  • Keep voice clear so the message survives even if music is muted; see advanced audio tools.
  • Check your account type (personal or business), as options can differ.

More in music and audio.

07

A multi-platform posting checklist

  1. Master in 9:16, 2K, text in the safe area, captions on.
  2. Export clean, no watermark.
  3. Post to Instagram with Share to Instagram.
  4. Cross-post to Facebook if you like.
  5. Upload the downloaded file to TikTok and YouTube Shorts with platform-specific captions and hashtags.
  6. Crop and re-export any feed or landscape versions from a duplicate project.
  7. Check each platform's rules for length, music and disclosures.

Edits multi-platform FAQ

No. Edits exports have no watermark, so you can post the same file on other platforms.

Export the video and download the file, then upload it in each app. Async says you can also cross-post to Facebook directly from Edits.

Short-form platforms are built around vertical 9:16, which is Edits' HD size of 1080x1920. Crop a duplicate project for other ratios.

Coverage of the cropping update says you can select specific areas or aspect ratios to crop and reposition video, which helps repurpose content beyond Instagram.

Edits product lead Tom Bender recommends 2K for most uses. Platforms recompress video, so start with a high-quality export.

Not always. Music licensing differs by platform and account type, so use music you have the rights to everywhere you post.

Publish everywhere

Build one master, crop it and export for every platform.
