Edits is a video creation app built by Instagram (owned by Meta Platforms). Its full store name is "Edits, an Instagram app", and the "an Instagram app" suffix is there precisely because several unrelated apps are also called Edits. It organises the whole creator workflow into three tabs: Ideas for saved Reels, audio and notes; Projects for every video you make, editable forever; and Insights, which pulls your real Reels performance - views, retention curves, skip rates - into the app.

It isn't three things people assume: it isn't a feature inside the Instagram app (it's downloaded separately); it isn't a paid upgrade (it's free, no tier); and it isn't locked to Instagram output - exports are clean, watermark-free files you can post to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Facebook or anywhere else. On Android you can go one step further: the Play Store URL ends in the package name com.instagram.basel. Copycats can imitate an icon, but they can't use Instagram's package.

On first launch Edits asks you to sign in with Instagram. If the Instagram app is on the same device, it offers one-tap "Continue as @yourname" - no password typing. If it isn't, you enter your username and password as usual, and two-factor codes work exactly as they do in Instagram. There is no separate Edits account, no email verification, and no new password to remember.

That link powers three things. Publishing: finished Reels go straight to Instagram (and Facebook) from inside Edits, with a clickable link overlay if you want one. Insights: your real Reels analytics - views, retention curve, where viewers skipped - appear in Edits' Insights tab so each video informs the next. Two practical notes. Use the account you post from - Insights only cover the signed-in account, so editing on a personal login while posting from a brand account shows you nothing useful. And switching accounts is a tap in the Edits profile menu, the same multi-account flow Instagram uses.

• Share to Instagram - Edits hands the video straight to the Reels composer for your signed-in account, where you add the caption, cover and audio attribution as usual. Facebook is an option on the same screen.

You're seeing the clones. Search the full name and check that the developer is Instagram.
