Which login problem do you have?
Name the problem first, because each one has a different fix. Edits is made by Instagram and signs you in with an Instagram account, so most Edits login trouble is really Instagram account trouble. The app is free and mobile-only.
| What happens | Likely cause | Jump to |
|---|---|---|
| No account suggested on the sign-in screen | Not signed in to Instagram on this phone | How sign-in works |
| Wrong account is selected | Several accounts on the device | Switch accounts |

How Edits sign-in works
Edits uses your existing Instagram account. Kapwing's walkthrough says the sign-in screen detects an Instagram account already signed in on your phone, and you tap the large button to continue with the suggested one.
- Open the Instagram app first and make sure you're signed in to the account you want to use.
- Download Edits from the App Store or Google Play. See download Edits.
- Open Edits and tap the main button to log in with the suggested account.
- Check the account name before you publish. Edits can post straight to Instagram.
Edits is a mobile app. There's no desktop version from Instagram, so a login problem on a computer is a different issue; see Edits on desktop.
Wrong account or switching accounts
If the wrong account is suggested, you don't need to sign out of everything.
- Choose "Switch accounts" at the bottom of the sign-in screen, as described by Kapwing.
- Switch later from the top-right corner of the Home tab.
- Add the other account in Instagram first if it doesn't appear in the list.
- Check before posting. A reel posted from the wrong account has to be deleted and re-shared.
- Business or creator accounts usually work the same way, but confirm in your own app, since features change.
Menu names can change between versions, so follow what your screen shows.
Forgot your password
Instagram's Help Center says that if you can't remember your password, you can reset it using your email address, phone number or Facebook account. Do this inside the Instagram app or on instagram.com, then sign in to Edits again.
- Open Instagram and tap the forgot-password option on the login screen.
- Enter your username, email or phone number.
- Follow the link or code sent to your email or phone. Check spam folders.
- Choose a new, unique password you haven't used elsewhere.
- Return to Edits and sign in with the account.
If you no longer have access to the email or phone, use the "need more help" options that Instagram shows during recovery.
Login codes and two-factor problems
- Wait a minute and request one new code. Repeated requests can slow delivery.
- Check your phone's signal, do-not-disturb mode and blocked-number lists for SMS codes.
- Use an authentication app or backup code if you set one up. Instagram has an official backup-code help article.
- Check the date and time on your phone is automatic, because authenticator codes depend on it.
- Never read a code to anyone. Instagram support doesn't ask for it.
If you're locked out for good, go through Instagram's recovery flow rather than creating a new account, so your Edits identity stays the same.
Edits won't open or sign in
- Update Edits and Instagram to the latest versions in your app store.
- Check your connection. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Force close and reopen both apps.
- Restart your phone and free up storage if it's nearly full.
- Check the device is supported. Edits is on iPhone and Android; see Android download or app download.
- Avoid uninstalling Edits until you've read missing drafts, because local projects can be lost.
Hacked account and recovery scams
Be careful: people target locked-out accounts. Only use Instagram's own recovery flow.
- Never give your password or login codes to a website, a "recovery" service or a DM.
- Ignore messages that promise to unlock accounts for a fee.
- Don't sign in to Edits-lookalike sites. Edits comes from the official app stores only.
- If you suspect a hack, use Instagram's hacked-account help, change your password and turn on two-factor authentication.
- Review linked apps and log out of devices you don't recognise.
Protect your projects and get help
- Export finished videos to your camera roll so they don't depend on the login.
- Duplicate projects before big changes.
- Keep Instagram and Edits updated.
- Note the details for a report: phone model, OS and app versions, the exact message and when it started.
- Report problems in Instagram, where Meta says to send feedback.
