Missing Edits Drafts: What You Can Check

Opened Edits and can't see a project you were working on? Before you worry, work through a few checks: the right Instagram account, the Home tab and its filter, your camera roll for exported copies, app updates and phone storage. This guide helps you find what's there and avoid losing work next time. It doesn't promise recovery, because no official Edits article covers lost drafts, so the steps are sensible checks. Every step is animated, with video walkthroughs at the end.

Which missing-draft problem do you have?

Name the problem first. Kapwing's walkthrough describes the Home tab as the starting point where you create projects, filter your existing ones and switch accounts. That makes the Home tab your first stop for any missing project.

These are practical checks, not official Edits support, which hasn't published a guide on lost drafts. Recovery isn't guaranteed. Login trouble? See login problems.

02

Check the account first

Edits signs in with an Instagram account, and Kapwing says you can switch accounts from the top-right of the Home tab. If you use more than one account, you may simply be looking at the wrong one. Whether projects are stored per account isn't documented, so check your own app.

  1. Note the account name shown in Edits.
  2. Switch accounts from the top-right of the Home tab and look again.
  3. Confirm the account you used when you made the project.
  4. Sign in again if the account looks wrong; see login problems.
03

Look through the Home tab

  • Open the Home tab and scroll the whole project list.
  • Use the filter Kapwing describes for existing projects, and reset it to show everything.
  • Remember the default name. Kapwing says new projects are called "new project", so look for that name.
  • Look at the date and thumbnail, not just the name.
  • Close and reopen Edits if the list seems stuck.

Menu names change with updates, so follow what your screen shows. For project basics see create your first reel.

04

Check your camera roll

Kapwing says that after export, a copy of your video is automatically saved to your camera roll. That copy is the finished video, not the editable project, but it may be all you need.

  1. Open your phone's photo gallery and check Recents for exports.
  2. Search by date around when you last worked.
  3. Check albums, including any album for Edits or Instagram videos.
  4. Check recently deleted in your gallery app, which keeps items for a limited time on many phones.
  5. Use the posted video from your Instagram profile if you shared it.

See export settings for saving quality.

05

Update, restart, don't reinstall

  1. Update Edits and Instagram in your app store.
  2. Force close and reopen both apps.
  3. Restart your phone.
  4. Don't delete or reinstall Edits to fix a missing list. Projects stored on the device may not survive, although this isn't documented.
  5. Check the app is on the same phone. Projects made on another device may not appear.

If an export failed rather than a draft vanishing, see export failed or stuck.

06

Phone storage and settings

  • Check free space. A nearly full phone can cause crashes and failed saves.
  • Update your phone's system software.
  • Turn off battery or storage cleaners that clear app data automatically.
  • Check Edits' permissions for photos and storage in your phone's settings.
  • Avoid "clear data" or "clear storage" on the app, which can remove local projects.
07

Stop it happening again

  • Export early. Save a copy to your camera roll at good milestones, not only at the end.
  • Name projects clearly instead of leaving "new project".
  • Duplicate before big changes so you have a fallback.
  • Back up your camera roll with your phone's cloud or a computer.
  • Keep the same account for each project where you can.
  • Save source clips separately so you can rebuild quickly.
08

Gather details and get help

  • Write down the phone model, OS version, Edits version and account name.
  • Note what changed before the project vanished: update, reinstall, low storage or new account.
  • Take screenshots of the Home tab and any error.
  • Report it in Instagram, where Meta directs feedback and bug reports.

Missing Edits drafts FAQ

Check the Home tab, which Kapwing describes as the place to create and filter existing projects. Make sure the right Instagram account is selected using the top-right account switch.

Kapwing says a copy of the exported video is automatically saved to your camera roll after export. That's the finished video, not the editable project.

Not reliably. Reinstalling can remove data stored on the device, and recovery isn't documented, so avoid it until you've checked everything else.

You may be signed in to a different Instagram account, or on a different phone from where you made the project. Switch accounts and check again.

No official Edits recovery method is documented. Check your camera roll and recently deleted folder for exported videos, and contact Instagram feedback with details.

Export copies at milestones, name and duplicate projects, keep storage free, and back up your camera roll.

Export a copy as you go, then finish your reel.
