Edits APK download: the 30-second answer
To download the Edits APK, get the file for package com.instagram.basel from APKMirror or APKPure, allow "Install unknown apps" for your browser, open the file and tap Install. It's the same free, watermark-free app Instagram publishes on Google Play - just delivered as a file instead of through the store.
Before you do, one honest check: if Edits is available in your Play Store, install it from there. It's faster, it updates itself, and there's nothing the APK gives you that the store version doesn't. The APK exists for the cases where the store can't help - a region that hasn't received the app yet, a phone without Google services, or a specific version you need - and this page covers each of those, plus how to tell a genuine file from a fake, how to sideload it, and what to do when Android says "App not installed".
What is the Edits APK?
An APK (Android Package) is the file format Android uses to install every app. When you tap Install in Google Play, the store downloads and installs an APK for you behind the scenes. "Downloading the Edits APK" simply means getting that same installation file directly - as a file you can see - and installing it yourself, a process called sideloading.
The Edits APK is therefore not a different app. It's Edits, an Instagram app - Instagram's free video editor with a frame-accurate timeline, keyframes, auto captions, AI cutouts, a teleprompter, Reels insights and 4K export with no watermark - packaged as a file. The package name is com.instagram.basel ("Basel" was the project's codename inside Instagram), and the file is cryptographically signed by Instagram. That signature is what lets you confirm you have the real thing, which matters more here than anywhere else on this site: when you bypass the store, you also bypass its gatekeeping, so the verification becomes your job. Section five shows exactly how.
When you actually need the Edits APK
Four situations justify the APK. If none of them is yours, close this tab and use the Play Store.
| Situation | What you see | APK fixes it? |
|---|---|---|
| Region not yet supported | "This item isn't available in your country" on the Play listing | Yes - the app runs anywhere once installed |
| No Google services | No Play Store on the device (some tablets, Huawei, Fire tablets, custom ROMs) | Yes - the APK doesn't need Play Services to install |
| Need a specific version | A new update broke something on your phone, or you want to test an older build | Yes - mirrors keep every release archived |
| Staged rollout hasn't reached you | A friend has a new feature; your Play Store shows no update | Yes - install the newer build directly |
| Want "premium" or "no watermark" | Searching for a mod or cracked version | Nothing to unlock - see section 09 |
| Edits is in your Play Store | Install button is available | Use the store - faster and self-updating |
One nuance on the "no Google services" row: Edits installs without Play Services, but it signs in through Instagram's own servers, so login and all online features work normally. What you may lose on a Google-free device is Play Protect scanning and automatic updates, both of which this guide covers.
Where to download the Edits APK safely
APKMirror
Open on APKMirrorAPKPure
Open on APKPureWhy these two
Both sites have been operating for over a decade and both verify the APK's cryptographic signature against the version Google Play distributes. If anyone altered a single byte of the file, the signature would no longer match Instagram's and the mirror would reject it. That's the property you care about - not the download speed or the design of the site. APKMirror additionally publishes the signature hash on every download page so you can compare it yourself.
Which file to pick on the download page
Edits is distributed as an Android App Bundle, so mirrors list several variants for each version. Look for the one labelled "universal" or "nodpi" with architecture "arm64-v8a" (every Android phone from the last six years) - or the universal APK covering all architectures if it's offered. Avoid the "x86" variants unless you're installing into an emulator, and prefer a plain .apk over a bundle (.apkm, .xapk, .apks) unless you already have the matching installer app; section seven explains the difference.
How to verify the Edits APK before installing
Four checks, each under ten seconds. Do all four the first time; after that you'll do them by reflex.
- Package name is
com.instagram.basel. It's printed on the mirror's download page and in the Android install dialog. Any other package - even one that looks close - is not Edits. - Developer / signer is Instagram. APKMirror shows "Instagram" as the developer and a signature line; APKPure shows the developer under the app name.
- File size is plausible. The Edits APK is in the hundreds of megabytes (bundle variants are smaller, individual splits smaller still). A 10 MB "Edits.apk" is a dropper, not the app.
- Version matches the Play listing. Open the Play Store page from any browser (it loads even in unsupported regions) and compare the version number. The mirror's latest should match or be within a release of it.
How to install the Edits APK (sideload step by step)
- Download the APK from APKMirror or APKPure using your phone's browser. Wait for the download notification to say it's complete - a partial file is the number-one cause of "App not installed".
- Allow installs from your browser. Tap the download notification; Android will say "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source" and offer Settings. Toggle Allow from this source. (Manual path: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps → your browser.)
- Go back and tap Install. Confirm the dialog shows Edits as the app name. Installation takes ten to thirty seconds.
- Let Play Protect scan it if prompted. On phones with Google services, Play Protect checks sideloaded apps; the genuine Edits passes. If it says "Blocked by Play Protect", you have the wrong file - go back to section five.
- Tap Open, grant Photos, Camera and Microphone when Edits asks, and sign in with your Instagram account.
- Turn the permission back off. Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps → your browser → off. Leaving it on is how drive-by installs happen.
Edits APK requirements and file types
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Android version | Check the "Requires Android" line on the mirror; it matches the Play Store minimum. If your phone is older, the installer will refuse with "App not installed" or a parse error. |
| Architecture | arm64-v8a for virtually every phone since 2019; armeabi-v7a for very old 32-bit devices; x86_64 only for emulators. Pick wrong and the install fails or the app crashes on open. |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM minimum; 6-8 GB for smooth 4K and keyframe-heavy projects. |
| Storage | A few hundred MB for the app; keep 2-5 GB free for projects and exports. |
| Google Play Services | Not required to install or sign in. Without it you lose Play Protect scanning and auto-updates only. |
| Account | Any Instagram account - personal, creator or business. |
APK vs APKM / XAPK / APKS - which one do you want?
Because Instagram publishes Edits as an App Bundle, Google Play builds a custom set of "split" APKs for each device. Mirrors therefore offer the app in two shapes:
- Single .apk (often labelled universal or nodpi) - installs with Android's built-in installer, exactly as described above. Choose this when it's offered.
- Bundle: .apkm (APKMirror), .xapk (APKPure), .apks - a zip of base + split APKs. Android's stock installer can't open these; you need the mirror's own installer app (APKMirror Installer or the APKPure app) or a tool like SAI. Slightly smaller download, one extra app to install.
If the only download for the newest version is a bundle, install the mirror's installer app first, then open the bundle through it. It handles the splits automatically.
How to update a sideloaded Edits APK
This is the one real trade-off of the APK route: sideloaded apps don't auto-update. Edits ships new features roughly weekly, so an unmaintained APK install falls behind quickly. Three ways to stay current:
- Manual check - revisit the mirror every couple of weeks, download the newer version and install it over the existing one. Android treats it as an update; your login, projects and settings are kept because the signature matches.
- Use the mirror's app - APKPure's app and APKMirror Installer can notify you when a new version appears and install it in one tap.
- Switch to Play when you can - if Edits later appears in your Play Store, just tap Install there. Because the APK carries Instagram's genuine signature, Play installs over it seamlessly and takes over updates from then on.
"Edits no watermark mod APK" - why it's a scam by definition
Searches for the Edits APK are surrounded by results promising a "mod", "pro", "premium unlocked" or "no watermark" version. For many editing apps those listings describe cracked builds with paid features unlocked. For Edits, the pitch is incoherent: there is nothing to unlock.
- Edits has no paid tier for its editing, caption, audio, AI, insights or export tools.
- Edits never adds a watermark, at any resolution, on any export. The Play Store description says so outright.
- Edits has no ads to remove.
So a "mod" can't give you anything the free app lacks. What it can do is replace Instagram's signature with the modder's - which means your Instagram login passes through code nobody has audited, your clips sit in storage that app controls, and you'll never receive a legitimate update again (signature mismatch blocks it). Repackaged "no watermark" APKs are one of the most common vehicles for credential-stealing malware on Android precisely because the search intent is so high. Install the genuine, free, watermark-free Edits and nothing else.
Edits APK not installing? Fixes for every error
"App not installed"
The catch-all error. In order of likelihood: the download didn't finish (redownload and wait for "complete"); an older Edits with a different signature is already on the phone (uninstall it first); you picked the wrong architecture split (get the universal / arm64-v8a build); or storage is nearly full (free 1 GB and retry).
"There was a problem parsing the package"
The file is corrupt or your Android version is below the minimum. Redownload with a stable connection; if it persists, check the "Requires Android" line against your phone's version.
"Blocked by Play Protect"
Play Protect only blocks files it can't match to the known Edits signature. That means the file is modified - delete it and download from APKMirror or APKPure. Don't disable Play Protect to force it through.
Install button is greyed out
A screen-overlay app (blue-light filter, floating chat head, some keyboards) is active. Android disables Install while an overlay is drawn. Close the overlay app and the button becomes tappable.
Nothing happens when I tap the .apkm / .xapk file
It's a bundle, and the stock installer can't open it. Install APKMirror Installer or the APKPure app, then open the file through that.
Installed, but crashes on open
Almost always an architecture mismatch (a 32-bit build on a 64-bit phone or vice versa). Uninstall, download the universal build, reinstall. If it still crashes, restart the phone and make sure Instagram itself is up to date.
Installed, but can't log in
Confirm the same credentials work in the Instagram app. Two-factor codes are requested exactly as in Instagram. Accounts under restriction can't sign into Edits until that's resolved. See the login problems guide for the full list.
After installing Edits: your first video
The APK is installed and you're signed in - from here, it's identical to any other Edits install.
- Start a project from the Projects tab: tap +, import clips or record with the in-app camera.
- Cut it on the timeline - trim, split at the playhead, drag to reorder.
- Add captions with one tap and fix any misheard words with find & replace.
- Add sound from the royalty-free library for brand or client work.
- Export at the highest resolution your phone offers - clean, no watermark - and publish or save.

Edits APK download FAQ
The questions people ask most about the Edits APK.
Yes, when it comes from a reputable mirror such as APKMirror or APKPure and the package name is com.instagram.basel signed by Instagram. APKMirror verifies signatures against the Play Store release. Avoid any site offering a modified or "mod" version.
There is nothing to mod. The official Edits app is free and never adds a watermark, so any "no-watermark mod APK" offers nothing the genuine app lacks and may contain malware.
com.instagram.basel. "Basel" was the project's internal codename at Instagram. If a file you downloaded has a different package name, it is not Edits.
The main reasons are that Edits is not yet listed in your country's Play Store, your device has no Google services, you want a specific older version, or a staged update has not reached you yet.
No. Sideloaded apps do not auto-update. Check the mirror for new versions, or switch to the Play Store version once it is available in your region - it installs over the APK and keeps your login.
Edits ships as an Android App Bundle, so some mirrors offer it as a split bundle (.xapk, .apkm or .apks). These need an installer app such as APKMirror Installer or APKPure - or pick the single universal APK if the mirror offers one.
Usually a signature mismatch with an existing Edits install, a corrupt or incomplete download, an architecture mismatch from picking the wrong split, or low storage. Uninstall the old copy, redownload the universal APK, and retry.
Yes. It is the same free app as the Play Store version, with no subscription for its editing, caption, AI and export tools and no watermark.
