Edits / Features / Latest updates
Edits ships a feature drop almost every month - more than 130 features in its first year - and most of them land quietly in a menu you already use. This page keeps up: the latest drop explained, a month-by-month timeline since launch, the biggest changes by tool, why a new feature may not show on your phone yet, and what Instagram has said is coming next.
The most recent update is the largest since launch, announced across four Instagram Creators posts at once. It touches every tab: motion effects and AI in the editor, bilingual captions, a smarter audio library, longer exports, and the analytics upgrade creators had been asking for since the Insights tab appeared.
Two things to know before you go looking: several items are iOS first with Android "rolling out", and AI Restyle is live in some countries with generation limits. If a card below isn't in your app, here's why.
Glitch Out, Particles In, Displace and twelve more - entrance and exit animations for clips, text and stickers.
A slider that blends stickers, text and captions into the footage instead of sitting on top of it.
Re-style a whole clip from a text prompt or a preset look. AI effects guide.
Two languages on screen at once - English, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Korean, Japanese, French, German and more. Captions.
Library tracks drop their lyrics onto the timeline as styled text, in sync.
Filter sounds by mood and interest; import your own files into a reusable library. Music & audio.
Save versions of a project, snap items to each other, and templates with clips you can't accidentally move. Templates.
Long tutorials and vlogs export in one piece. Still no watermark - details.
Views, watch time, followers gained and engagements in one view. Which metrics matter.
Location, interests and active times for your audience - exportable for a media kit.
Find a trending format by keyword instead of scrolling for it.
Clips level themselves; a much bigger effects library.
Newest first. Instagram tends to theme each drop - an effects month, an audio month, an analytics month - so if you're looking for when a tool arrived, scan the headlines. Each tool's how-to lives in Features.
If you tried Edits at launch and moved on, this is what you'd find different today. Launch state versus now, for each area of the app.
Teleprompter speed and size controls, countdowns, Live Photos, 4K/60 on supported phones.
Storyboards for planning, Project Versions, snap alignment, clip → overlay, locked template clips, 15-min exports.
Keyframes (now including opacity), 15 In & Out animations, Opacity Blending, 60+ effects added, freeze frame, cinematic looks.
Bilingual captions in 15 languages, custom caption styles, caption highlighting, automatic lyrics, dozens of fonts and presets.
Volume ducking, loudness matching, search by vibe, import your own audio, 450+ new sound effects, voice effects and enhancement.
Compare 3 Reels, audience location/interests/active times, PDF export, weekly ideas, Inspiration search, interactive links.
AI Restyle from a prompt, AI video generation, AI effects; an AI assistant announced for the desktop version.
iOS and Android from day one; a desktop version announced. Until then, the PC and Mac routes work.
Interactive links on videos, direct share to Instagram and Facebook, still no watermark at any length.
Almost every "Edits removed X" or "where is Y" post comes down to one of these. Work through them in order; the first fixes most of them.
Automatic updates can lag by days, and a half-downloaded update sits waiting on Wi-Fi.
Instagram often ships to iOS first and rolls Android out gradually over weeks. The 15 In & Out effects and 15-minute export shipped this way.
AI features in particular launch in a subset of countries, with generation limits. The app hides what your region can't use.
4K/60 needs a supported phone. Business accounts get the royalty-free library rather than popular music. Some rollouts go to creator accounts first.
Instagram rarely publishes a roadmap, but a few things have been announced publicly. Edits for desktop - the same projects on a bigger screen, which would replace the emulator workarounds most people use today. A built-in AI assistant that suggests what to film and how to cut it. And the Android rollout of the iOS-first items from the latest drop.
No dates have been given for any of them. We'll update this page when they ship; in the meantime the Edits review covers what the app does and doesn't do today, and Comparisons shows where it stands against CapCut and the rest.
Update Edits and the new tools are already in your menus. Not installed yet? It takes a minute.
