Edits / Instagram Reels / Reels for business
Reels are the only Instagram format that shows your business to people who don't follow you yet - which makes them the cheapest customer acquisition most small businesses have. This playbook covers the four Reel types to rotate, a two-hour weekly routine, account setup and music licensing, and how views become customers.
Feed posts and Stories go to people who already follow you. Reels go to people who don't - in the Reels tab, in Explore, and (for local businesses) to accounts near you. It's the only organic format on Instagram that finds new customers, and it costs a phone and two hours a week.
The catch: Instagram shows a Reel to a small test audience first and only widens it if they watch to the end. An advert gets skipped; a Reel that shows the product doing its job, or teaches something, gets watched. Every type below is built on that. The mechanics are in What are Instagram Reels?.
Account type. Business gives you contact buttons (Call, Directions, Email), shop tagging and the ad tools, with a royalty-free-only music library. Creator gives you the full music library including trending tracks, with fewer business buttons. Both are free with Insights; switch in Settings → Account type. Most local businesses want Business; most product brands that live on trends want Creator - the music trap, explained.
Profile. Bio line one: what you do and where. Line two: hours or the offer. One link that's current (order page, booking page, not the homepage). Highlights for Menu / Prices / Reviews / How to order. A viewer who likes a Reel taps your profile next; it has to answer "what, where, how much, how" in five seconds.
One of each per week is a complete strategy. They do different jobs - sell, build trust, reach strangers, convert - and together they cover the whole path from "never heard of you" to "booked". Fifty more formats, sorted by goal, in Reels ideas.
Not a product shot - the product doing the thing it's for. The result is the pitch. Say the price on screen; people decide faster when they know it.
The kitchen at 6 am, the workshop, the van, the mess. Lower polish, higher trust - people buy from places they feel they've been inside.
One thing you know that customers don't. It travels furthest because it's useful to strangers, and it tells them you're the expert.
A before/after, a review read aloud, a customer's reaction (with permission). The Reel that makes someone who's been watching finally book.
Three Reels a week is enough to grow, and it fits in two hours if you batch: film everything in one session, edit in one sitting, schedule the posts. Nobody runs a business and edits a Reel every day; the routine is what makes it sustainable.
Phone, daylight, one location. One product-in-use, one behind-the-scenes, one tip. Shoot a few extra clips for next week. Camera tools.
Trim, text hook on frame one, auto captions, price label, export. 15 minutes each in Edits. Editing guide.
Schedule for your best time. Share each to your Story the same day. Reply to every comment within the hour.
Which Reel brought profile visits and link taps? Make two of that type next week. Reels analytics.
A Reel doesn't sell; it earns a profile visit. The profile sells - or the link does. So the Reel's job is to make someone tap your name, and the number that tells you it worked is profile visits ÷ views, not likes. Then the bio, the Highlights and the link have to close.
Instagram also weights shares and saves above likes, and a Reel that's useful - a tip, a before/after, a price - gets saved and sent. Track the five numbers in the analytics guide; for a business, add profile visits and link taps.
The four types apply to everyone; this is where each kind of business gets the most from them.
Dish in 10 s (plating → first bite), the specials board, the kitchen rush. Post before lunch and dinner. Pin the menu in Highlights.
Transformation before/after on every client who agrees. Hands-only process shots. Price list as a pinned Reel.
Product in use and unboxing. "3 ways to wear it". Restock teasers. Link in bio to the product, not the homepage.
Job before/after, the "we fixed this in 20 minutes" time-lapse, one tip that saves a call-out. Face on camera builds trust fastest here.
One exercise, one cue. Member results with permission. Class energy in 10 s. Trial-class CTA in every caption.
Walkthrough in 30 s, "what Rs X gets you in [area]", the street at golden hour. Location tag on everything.
The one-tip talking head. Teardowns of common mistakes. Client result in numbers. Post Tue–Thu mornings.
The making, sped up. Satisfying process, no talking. "How it's made" is the pitch and the price justification.
Edits trims, captions, labels the price and exports with no watermark - free, on the phone you already have.
